Installing Avast AV on Ubuntu in zh_TW locale
JasonWu was trying to install Avast! Antivirus Server Edition on Ubuntu 7.04 (zh_TW), but there was something wrong, buring the installation procedure.
So I went to http://www.avast.com/eng/products.html, downloaded the libavastengine-4.7.1-i586.deb and avast4server-3.0.1-i586.deb, try to install them.
Everything seems goes well at the beginning, but an error accured.
It says "/var/tmp/ no such file" (or not a regular file).
After extracting the .deb content by using dpkg -x and dpkg -e, I found the bug is in the postinst and prerm scripts in DEBIAN/, someting like these lines:
PSH_UNIQUE=`date +%h-%m-%y-%H-%M-%S`-$$The command "date +%h-%m-%y-%H-%M-%S" should replies "May-05-07-11-03-21" but it replies " 5月-05-07-11-03-33" in "zh_TW.UTF-8" locale, with a white space at the beginning of the line with it.
$PSH_CRONTAB -l | grep -v $PSH_AVASTVPSUPDATE >$PSH_TMP/$PSH_UNIQUE
So themost easy way the do a seccessfully installation is just simply do
export LANG=""
before installing it by using dpkg -i.
The Second problem is a sysconfig path error.
As you know Ubuntu/Debian doesn't use /etc/sysconfig but /etc/default. The avast4server.deb searches /etc/sysconfig/avastd for informations. The most easy solution is to make a soft link for it and install again.
ln -s /etc/default/avastd /etc/sysconfig/
Now everythings done and going well now. :-)
